How to Delete Your Threads Account Without Deleting Instagram (2026)
What you need to know first
Since December 2023 you can deactivate or delete Threads independently of Instagram. Deactivation is reversible; deletion is permanent after 30 days. Deleting Instagram still deletes the linked Threads profile.
Step-by-step: delete your data from Threads
- Step 1: Open the Threads app
- Step 2: Tap Profile > Menu (top left)
- Step 3: Tap Accounts Center > Personal details
- Step 4: Tap Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion
- Step 5: Select the Threads account
- Step 6: Choose Delete, select a reason, tap Continue and confirm
