How to control and delete your data in Microsoft Copilot (2026)
What you need to know first
Separate actions: turn off model-training toggles, delete conversation history in Copilot, and delete activity via the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard.
Step-by-step: delete your data from Microsoft Copilot
- Step 1: Sign in to Copilot with your personal Microsoft account
- Step 2: On copilot.com: select your profile icon, then your profile name, then Privacy
- Step 3: In Copilot for Windows or macOS: profile icon → Settings → Privacy. In the mobile app: menu → profile icon → Account → Privacy
- Step 4: Turn off "Training on conversation activity" and "Training on voice conversations"
- Step 5: Delete conversations in Copilot, or use account.microsoft.com/privacy → Activity history
- Step 6: To clear what Copilot remembers: profile icon → Memory → Delete all Memory
On mobile
- Open the Copilot app > menu > profile icon > Account > Privacy
- Toggle off the two training settings
Opt out of AI training
Copilot exposes two switches — "Training on conversation activity" and "Training on voice conversations" — reachable from copilot.com, the Windows/macOS app, or the mobile app. Opting out excludes FUTURE conversations from training those models. Microsoft states it does not exclude your conversations from other general product or system improvements, or from advertising, digital safety, security and compliance uses. In Office, disable Optional Connected Experiences (File → Options → Trust Center → Privacy Options). Microsoft 365 Copilot on work/school accounts is admin-controlled under Enterprise Data Protection and is not used to train foundation models.
Separate data request
Microsoft Privacy Dashboard (account.microsoft.com/privacy) to view/delete Copilot, browsing, search, location data
Key gotchas
- Two separate toggles — text and voice
- The toggle only covers model training; it does not stop other product improvement, advertising, safety, security or compliance uses
- Work/school (Entra ID) accounts are controlled by your admin, not by you
- Personalized ads are a separate setting, and personalization is separate again
- Personalization is on by default where it is offered, and is not available in Brazil, China (excluding Hong Kong), Israel, Nigeria, South Korea or Vietnam
What this doesn't cover
Consumer training controls don't apply to work/school accounts; data already trained on can't be removed; broker data is separate.
Copilot data controls govern Microsoft's use of your prompts, not the broker listings of your identity.
