What you need to know first
Separate actions: turn off the 'AI data retention' toggle (stops your activity being used to improve models), delete individual Threads, and delete your account.
Step-by-step: delete your data from Perplexity
- Step 1: Sign in at perplexity.ai
- Step 2: Open your account settings (bottom-left corner → my account, or perplexity.ai/account/details)
- Step 3: Cancel any subscription FIRST, to avoid charges after deletion
- Step 4: Scroll to the bottom and open the deletion option, then confirm in the pop-up
- Step 5: Delete individual Threads from your Library separately — they are not removed just by opting out
On mobile
- Open the Perplexity app > profile/menu > Settings
- Find the AI data retention toggle and turn it off
Opt out of AI training
Profile name > All settings > Preferences > Artificial Intelligence > turn off 'AI data retention'. Only works when logged in. Third-party model providers (OpenAI/Anthropic) are contractually barred from training on Perplexity user data; enterprise accounts excluded automatically.
