What still protects you
Maine has no comprehensive consumer privacy law, but its sectoral ISP statute (35-A M.R.S. § 9301) gives strong opt-in control over broadband-customer data. For general personal data, residents have breach-notification rights and can use opt-outs to CCPA-covered and other-state-registered brokers and GPC, but cannot compel access/deletion/opt-out from most non-ISP businesses under state law.

For general data and data brokers, residents rely on breach notification, opt-outs to CCPA-covered and other-state-registered brokers, and the Global Privacy Control. The ISP law uses an OPT-IN model: ISPs may not use, disclose, sell, or permit access to customer personal information (including browsing history, app-usage history, and geolocation) without the customer's express, affirmative consent.
Special protections
Maine has NO Daniel's-Law-style judicial/official privacy statute and no broker-takedown right for officials (confirmed against Maine Revised Statutes and EPIC's national tracker, which omits Maine, 2026-06-21). Related but non-qualifying: (1) Address Confidentiality Program, 5 M.R.S. §90-B (Secretary of State) — covers victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, trafficking, and reproductive/gender-affirming health-care practitioners; judges/prosecutors/officers are NOT an eligible class unless personally a covered victim; binds state/local agencies and courts only, not data brokers. (2) FOAA exemption 1 M.R.S. §402(3)(O) shields public-employee personal contact info from public records but excludes elected officials and imposes no obligation on private brokers. No 2023–2026 Maine judicial-security/address-removal bill was enacted.
