How to Delete Your Reddit Account (and Your Posts) in 2026
What you need to know first
Reddit has no temporary deactivation — deletion is immediate and permanent; accounts can't be reactivated and the username is gone forever.
Step-by-step: delete your data from Reddit
- Step 1: Log in at reddit.com
- Step 2: Open Settings
- Step 3: Scroll to the Advanced/Delete section and click Delete Account
- Step 4: Enter required details and check 'I understand that deleted accounts aren't recoverable'
- Step 5: Enter password and click Delete
On mobile
- Tap avatar > Settings > Account settings
- Scroll to Delete Account
- Confirm with password (or 6-digit code if no password set)
Separate data request
Reddit data request page (GDPR/CCPA/CPRA options); may take up to 30 days
Key gotchas
- Posts/comments are NOT deleted with the account — delete first if they contain personal info
- Cancel Reddit Premium separately before deleting
- Disconnect Google/Apple sign-in first
- No recovery — irreversible
What this doesn't cover
Your actual posts/comments stay live (just unattributed), indexed by search engines, archived by mirrors, and licensed for AI training — none of which deletion reaches.
Because deletion only removes the username link, personal details in your comments stay public and brokered; cleanup needs content removal plus broker monitoring.
