How to Delete a YouTube Channel vs Your Whole Google Account (2026)
What you need to know first
You can HIDE a channel (reversible — content hidden, comments removed) or permanently DELETE the channel and its videos. Deleting a YouTube channel does NOT delete your Google Account; deleting the Google Account removes everything.
Step-by-step: delete your data from YouTube
- Step 1: Sign in to YouTube Studio
- Step 2: From the left sidebar, select Settings
- Step 3: Select Channel, then Advanced settings
- Step 4: At the bottom, select Remove YouTube content (you may be asked to sign in again)
- Step 5: Select "I want to permanently delete my content" (or "I want to hide my channel" for the reversible option)
- Step 6: Select the boxes to confirm what will be deleted
- Step 7: Select Delete my content

Key gotchas
- Deleting a channel is NOT deleting your Google Account (and vice versa)
- You cannot currently delete a channel on a mobile device
- Hiding only hides — the channel can be re-enabled later
- Deleting the primary owner account linked to the channel deletes the channel too
- Deletion is not instant — thumbnails of your videos may remain visible for a while
- Copies other people reuploaded stay up
What this doesn't cover
Videos others downloaded or re-uploaded, and search-engine caches of your channel, persist after deletion.
