How to Delete a YouTube Channel vs Your Whole Google Account (2026)
What you need to know first
You can HIDE a channel (reversible — content hidden, comments removed) or permanently DELETE the channel and its videos. Deleting a YouTube channel does NOT delete your Google Account; deleting the Google Account removes everything.
Step-by-step: delete your data from YouTube
- Step 1: Sign in to YouTube
- Step 2: Go to Settings (youtube.com/account)
- Step 3: Click Advanced settings
- Step 4: Click Remove YouTube content
- Step 5: Choose Hide my channel (reversible) or permanently delete my content
- Step 6: Confirm by typing your channel name and entering your password
Separate data request
Google Takeout (takeout.google.com) to export; Google My Activity for watch/search history
Key gotchas
- Deleting a channel is NOT deleting your Google Account (and vice versa)
- Hiding only hides — channel can be restored
- Permanent deletion requires retyping channel name
- Reuploaded copies remain elsewhere
What this doesn't cover
Videos others downloaded or re-uploaded, and search-engine caches of your channel, persist after deletion.
If your real name or face appeared on your channel, brokers and reupload sites may retain it; channel removal is step one, broker removal step two.
